Thursday Home Tour ~ It Could Be Yours!

Welcome to the House of Atreus!

This 1883 Folk Victorian farmhouse is a true piece of Texas history.  The owner and his brother were Texas Rangers and members of "Terry's Rangers," the 8th Texas Calvary of the Confederate State of America.   Built by Atreus and Katherine Clay near historic Independence, TX, this beautiful home has been in the same family for 4 generations and was formerly used as a Bed & Breakfast and wedding venue called the House of Atreus.

There are over 14 acres of property dotted with ancient live oaks and pecan trees that beckon you to ponder those that have lived here and events of times past.

There are 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 3,727 sq. ft.  Some of the unique features of this home are high ceilings, hardwood floors, many fireplaces and some are double sided.  You may notice during the tour that the same painting is on many of the fireplace mantels.  Do they have that many paintings or did they move it to be included in the various pictures?  Hmmm...

The staircase is grand and at the top is a loft area.

What a nice surprise!
A HUGE built in pool, with stack stone planters and a BBQ pit too!

There is an original cistern in the basement with a wine cellar and a metal shop with over 4,800 sq. ft. which includes a 1 bedroom and 1 bath guest quarters.

Located at 8708 Captain Scott Road, in Brenham, TX, this amazing home can be yours for only $588,000!  That's a steal considering the original asking price was $1,000,000!

What do you think...could you live here?

  1. I love this home from beginning to end, from downstairs to upstairs, from start to finish. Oh, those floors, that grand kitchen, how stately it looks from outside. Trying to think of something I don't like. Not going to happen!!!

    Thanks, Cindy!!

  2. This home is HUGE! And a lot of potential indeed, but what I love most about it is the vast land and that beautiful tree up front!

  4. OMGOODNESS! I absolutely LOVE this house---the exterior is just charming. I love the inside, too, just not crazy about the furnishings but I can picture it decorated differently. Beautiful find, Cindy! xo Diana
