There we were my daughter and I, spending a nice afternoon together and strolling through a quaint second hand shop with no intent on making any purchases. We were talking and laughing while gazing at the goodies all around us. We do this often and most of the time we don't spend a dime. Well, this day was different.
As I rounded the corner my eyes were drawn to a pair of lamps with hand painted pink and green flowers and then I was drawn to the dangling sales tag where "$19 each" was boldly written.
$19 each!?
So I looked a little closer.
The lamp bases were old and a little worn but the hand painted flowers were beautiful and in pristine condition! And then I noticed the white shades. They were badly soiled with little dark spots splattered all around.
I asked the shop owner if she had a suggestion for cleaning the shades and she recommended using a magic eraser, but that didn't work. So I got some hydrogen peroxide and Q-tips to give that a try...
Some of the spots went away quickly and others took a bit more work.
I would dampen the spot, let it sit for a bit; dampen the spot again while also giving it a little rub.
It worked like a charm!
To be honest, I wasn't sure where I was going to use the lamps. I just knew at $19 each it was too good of a deal to pass by. And guess what? They look great in the downstairs guest bedroom and go perfectly with the window treatments; meant to be!
Sometimes you find the best things when you aren't even looking and I have found this to be true more often than not; if you really like something and the price is great...bring it home!
You'll find the perfect spot for it.

ReplyDeleteWhat a find. My daughter swears by peroxide and has used it to get blood and everything else out. Those lamps were the perfect finishing touch for that room. Sometimes you just 'know' that you should get something. Had you walked away you would have thought about them later and regretted not buying them! Love them! xo Diana
