From Sparse to Bright in the Kitchen

So far we've had a much warmer and wetter winter than normal.  Christmas day temperatures were in the 70's so there were no boots or Christmas sweaters worn this year.  Though it's a bit cooler now with no rain in the forecast, the sun is still mostly tucked behind the clouds.  I'm ready for a little sunshine!

After Christmas I pack decorations away and then slowly pull the house back together.  It's taking me a little longer than usual for some reason and it sure looks sparse with bare mantels and table tops, so I headed out to the garden to pick some red camellia for the kitchen.

For Christmas the kitchen window was filled with icicle lights, a sparkly angel, glass hurricane with a candle surrounded by snow and cranberries, and a tinsel tree decorated with homespun ornaments.

Once all the decorations were packed away this space sure looked sparse,

so I filled a white vase with red Camellia blooms to add a little cheer to the kitchen.





Fresh flowers sure brighten things up!

Before arranging fresh flowers I give them a little soak so any creepy crawlies can be discarded.

I used this small vintage vase with holes on top for fresh cut flower stems; a gift from my daughter.  Once the vase was filled I placed it on a small compote dish for a little height.

I'm not sure the name of this camellia.

The petals are tightly ruffled so the stamen and other in most parts are tucked away not to be seen.

I am so glad there are flowers that bloom during the winter months, spring is such a long time away.
