So far we've had a much warmer and wetter winter than normal. Christmas day temperatures were in the 70's so there were no boots or Christmas sweaters worn this year. Though it's a bit cooler now with no rain in the forecast, the sun is still mostly tucked behind the clouds. I'm ready for a little sunshine!
After Christmas I pack decorations away and then slowly pull the house back together. It's taking me a little longer than usual for some reason and it sure looks sparse with bare mantels and table tops, so I headed out to the garden to pick some red camellia for the kitchen.
For Christmas the kitchen window was filled with icicle lights, a sparkly angel, glass hurricane with a candle surrounded by snow and cranberries, and a tinsel tree decorated with homespun ornaments.
Once all the decorations were packed away this space sure looked sparse,
so I filled a white vase with red Camellia blooms to add a little cheer to the kitchen.
Fresh flowers sure brighten things up!
Fresh flowers sure brighten things up!
Before arranging fresh flowers I give them a little soak so any creepy crawlies can be discarded.
I used this small vintage vase with holes on top for fresh cut flower stems; a gift from my daughter. Once the vase was filled I placed it on a small compote dish for a little height.
I'm not sure the name of this camellia.
The petals are tightly ruffled so the stamen and other in most parts are tucked away not to be seen.
I am so glad there are flowers that bloom during the winter months, spring is such a long time away.
Hope you are having a great week so far!

So gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there were flowers that grew in winter months. Usually in Ohio we're under ice and snow for months and months - the winter wonderland is our garden this time of year.....however it's been so oddly warm that until yesterday there were still some greens left on pansies and early blooming things were beginning to bud again....never good if they don't get the sleep they need. T'will be interesting to see what happens come springtime. I bet the lilac bush doesn't bloom much again. : - (
ReplyDeleteYour lovely flowers and vase (to die for awesome) look perfect in that gorgeous kitchen, Cindy.
Because it is cold and usually snowy here I keep all the snowy and mercury and ice glass and aqua things up for a long while but all the truly Christmasey things get put away after Epiphany. I am still in the middle of trying to make it all work again, always an adventure!
Happy New Year! Hope it's your very best ever! : - )
So pretty, Cindy! Love your gorgeous kitchen.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Your flowers are lovely, but it's your kitchen I can't take my eyes off. Lovely.

I, too, enjoy bring some flora into the decor after the Christmas Season!!!
Fondly,

So pretty! I love the fresh, clean look of your kitchen window now. You are lucky to have something blooming...the only thing blooming here in Nebraska is snow, haha!
ReplyDeleteThe weather around the country is definitely 'different' this year. Here in Phoenix, we have had freezing temps and this week is predicted to be rain all week. That Never happens. I have to admit though, I sure have enjoyed experiencing a bit of winter this year. Your Camellias are beautiful! I so love adding red to a neutral background. What a lovely view you get to enjoy from your kitchen window - Peaceful! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about the clean, fresh look...although your Christmas decor looked wonderful! It's also a relief to be done with it!! lol! I'm inspired and working away at it!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Cindy!
Love the densely packed petals on the camellias!
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen is gorgeous! Love all the light coming in... The camellia is just lovely...imagine being able to pick flowers in the winter.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Cindy, those flowers and that flower frog are absolutely gorgeous! Lucky you to have those blooms. Camellias are one of those plants that just haven't survived the test of time in our region due to winters getting a little too bitter for their liking. However, I just love their waxy green leaves and blooms. Perfect for your kitchen window with that magnolia, is it?, just beyond the window.
