Just Before Christmas...

Thursday, December 10, 2015

The day was planned.
Christmas decorations were brought down from storage the day before,
each labeled box had been placed in the room it would be unpacked,
I was excited to begin decorating for this special Christmas season,
this most wonderful time of the year.

First thing first though;
the usual early morning gathering of shelled sunflower seeds and meal worms for feeding the birds,
putting on my coat, slipping off my slippers and sliding into my outdoor boots,
heading through the back door and onto the deck with the songbirds waiting for me at the feeders
and that's when this ordinary day turned extraordinary.

Pink hues seemed to engulf the world.
All was pink, purple and blue as my eyes gazed out past the deck,
through the trees and into the sky...it was a glorious sight!

There was calm,
a reassurance,
an instant importance of things so much grander than my plan for the day.
I was taken past the decorations and straight to the reason for this most wonderful time of year.

Joy,
Peace,
Hope,
there is a plan,
we have a future
and
it is secure.

"The great thing to remember is that, though our feelings come and go, His love for us does not.
It is not wearied by our sins, our indifference, and, therefore, it is quite relentless in its determination that we should be cured of those sins, at whatever cost to us, and whatever cost to Him."
C.S. Lewis Mere Christianity

  5. Dear Cindy, you don't know how very much I needed to hear this today and that quote from C. S. Lewis - our feelings come and go but His love for us does not! This horrible thing that has happened to our little Carter has just devastated us and today she was denied her 2nd chemo treatment because of some mix up with the insurance! Our emotions are up on the ceiling and then down in the dumps. I know our God never changes, but your post was another reminder to me how much He loves us and all we cana do is trust Him.
    Blessings,
    Shelia ;)

  17. Cindy,
This post touched my heart in an amazing way, dear friend!!!
"Mr. Ed" and I traveled in separate cars coming home from our last "Tour of Duty".
He asked, "What time do you want to leave in the morning?"
My reply, "Early enough to see the sun rise high
in the sky over Kansas like a red rubber ball!"
As we crossed the Colorado / Kansas State Lines, I pulled off the highway.
"Mr. Ed" pulled off behind me.
There we set, two cars, two sons, two cats watching as the sun rose like a red rubber ball.
Like you, there was a 'peace' that came over me. . .and then a calmness that all was well.
Thank you for sharing your sunrise!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
