The guest room, turned office, is being turned back to a guest room again.
I want this room to feel warm and cozy, so I'm adding colonial farmhouse style furnishings and accessories. There's been a lot of progress since I shared the Guest Room Sneak Peek with you;
the cupboard is finished and a few new finds have been added too!
This cupboard was in my shop for a long time.
I didn't mind the paint dappled down the edges back then but I wanted to clean her up a bit.
Here is the before,
with lots of paint here and there.

Here she is now; clean and shiny.
I love the details on this piece.
She's old and worn with some ornate moldings to make her pretty.
Leaving a little of the white paint dappled across the top,
I finished the cupboard with a good cleaning and polishing.
Then the fun part,
filling the shelves with a few of my favorite things.
On the top shelf are an ironstone sugar dish and a picture of my great-grandfather, Big Daddy, the littlest fella on the right.
My Big Daddy built the home depicted in the painting that rests on the top of the cupboard;
my father's childhood home place.
You know me, I love birds! On this shelf there is a sweet little bird dish and a Robin too.
Pretty plates and hydrangea.
I love the South!
For years I have admired the artwork of Gaye Sanders Fisher.
She is a native of Charlotte, NC and has an art gallery in Charleston, SC.
"The color of the Lowcountry is my passion and is reflected in my work."- Gaye Sanders Fisher
I was thrilled to find three of her Flower Ladies watercolors and have added them to the guest room, hanging them just to the left of the cupboard.
These can be found for sale at rubylane.com ~ Flower Ladies ~ Framed and Signed by Gaye Sanders Fisher
After seeing this walnut drop front desk with filigree shelf at a consignment shop I decided to keep my eye on it and if she was still there when the lowest price was reached I would bring her home...here she is!
I thought this would be great piece for the guest room. It has several drawers for clothing and offers work space should guests bring their computer while visiting. I really like the filigree shelf space for displaying a few pretties.
This corner is finished!
What projects are you working on?
It's coming along perfectly Cindy, and those watercolors are real treasures for sure! This room will be very welcoming to any guest!
ReplyDeleteCindy, you did a great job refinishing the cupboard. Love the old photograph and painting related your 'Big Daddy' (that's the moniker the state of WV gave to Senator Robert C Byrd, who advocated for so many years for our state). Your desk is lovely too, but those Flower Ladies - they epitomize the wonderful South!

Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThe transformation is spectacular on the cupboard, dear friend!!!
I adore that "treasures of your heart" fill the shelves!!!
The antique Secretary is an exquisite piece!!!
I, too, have a Secretary in my Guest Room. . .it belonged to my MoMa!!!
Thank you for sharing your lovely Guest Room make over!!!
. . .and, YES!!! I'll be back to see your finished projects!!!

ReplyDeleteCindy- Your room looks GREAT. It is warm and welcoming with lots of "YOU" touches in there. I love the picture of Big Daddy and the homestead painting. The shelves look great with all your sweet treasures on them. Hope you have a great day. I am working on some projects, too, and hope to finish up a couple of them this weekend. xo Diana

That is one beautful piece of furniture. And big too, holds a lot of your treasures in it. I think my favorite would have to be the wood moulding. The room is warm and cozy, can't wait to see the rest.
ReplyDeleteThat desk is truly gorgeous! You know, I just can't make myself scuff something up to make it look shabby. Seems to go against my grain somehow! You and I love our birds! You get better pics now though. I'm full of envy!

Hi Cindy, Your desk is absolutely beautiful and perfect in that space! Love it!
ReplyDeleteJust perfect Cindy! You have some great pieces, especially your new desk! Jane
ReplyDeleteCindy, your guest room is wonderful. That cupboard is gorgeous with the rope molding on it. It's neat that you have all the collectibles in there too. Your guests will feel so at home.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think the reason so many Victorian furnishings fell out of favor was their heaviness, and your white interior just gives this gorgeous piece such a lift...I love it...very inviting. Thanks for the tour, Sandi
ReplyDeleteCindy you have beautiful furniture in that room! So pretty! Thanks for joining Home Sweet Home!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Love your stunning furniture!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by!!
