The Chicken Coop ~ Hens or Roosters?

We love summertime in the North Carolina Mountains!
With cooler temperatures, no humidity, scenic views, hiking, shopping, entertainment, and great restaurants...what's not to love?

We packed up the camper, our home away from home, and headed out for an 11 day vacation.
I really thought it might be too long of a trip, but we had a grand time and I wasn't ready to leave!

I took so many pictures while there and hope you enjoy these scenes from the chicken coop!

Are they hens or roosters?

We had no idea, but we sure got a kick out of watching them!

I think they liked watching us too!

Notice anything other than chickens in this picture?

How about now?

Yep, that's an egg, laying in the dirt!

  2. The photos look great! Those are all hens. If they're laying eggs in the dirt, they're not very well trained.

  3. Too cute, Cindy!! We love to go to the poultry house at the Dixie Classic Fair in the fall and check out all the hens and roosters. They're so colorful -- and quite vocal too. ;) Enjoy your fun vacation in the mountains. We love the North Carolina mountains, too, especially when it's boiling hot here in the Piedmont.

  4. Yep, I think they must be hens...and they are adorable! My son just got some chickens and as they grew a few older, the one thingy on top of the head became larger and larger. Instead of three hens, he has two hens and a rooster :) No eggs yet though...I love them too! Great photos! Enjoy your July 4th weekend!

  5. I wouldn't know a chicken from a rooster but I love them all. They are such interesting characters. Sounds like you have a great 11 day getaway. Happy 4th!!!

  6. Great shots! Looks like someone couldn't hold it long enough to get back to the nest! Guess that would be an actual "yard egg".
