Small Antique Chair Solution for Clutter

I've found that my new spot for reading is in the keeping room.

It's close to the coffee pot,

just beside the laundry room,

and is in the heart of our home, the kitchen,

so it's the perfect spot to pull up the footstool and cozy up with a book.

There's been one problem.

I'm one of those that doesn't finish a book before starting another
and have several daily devotionals that I read, so there's clutter!

There is always a stack of books, my journal and pens cluttering up the table.

I needed a solution for keeping my books close by without all the mess
and
that's
when
this
small
antique
chair
came
to
mind.

Crafted with wooden pegs, tapered legs and a basket weave seat,

this farmhouse style chair

is the perfect "book shelf" for the keeping room.

A hooked rug square was placed on the seat to help protect it from the weight of the books
and the colors just happen to go perfectly with the rooster hooked rug in this room.

Rather than stacking the books on the seat of the chair,
I decided to use this primitive box to hold the books and devotionals I'm currently reading.
My Bible fits just behind the box or it can hang on the side of the chair.

There is a drawer in the box too and is where I keep my journal and pens.

This chair has been tucked away for a long time so I'm glad to have found a good use for it.

From most views in the keeping room and kitchen it can't be seen but the books are close by when I'm ready for them.  Who knew a little antique chair could be the solution to clutter!

Hop on over for this week's inspiration and features at AMAZE ME MONDAY!

  1. It's a perfect solution, and looks to be a perfect place to read, especially when seeing the light that's streaming in on that first photo.

  7. I also tend to pile up books, papers, pens and forty-two pair of cheap-o reading glasses. I love your idea for gathering everything into one neat area. Cutie-pie chair!

  8. Great idea Cindy! I love to use old chairs as a storage place. I have a sweet chair of my grandmothers that can hold a few books, but it too rickety for normal use. It is the perfect chair for displaying a few books I am currently reading. I get to enjoy the chair without fear that someone will fall and hurt themselves when it breaks!

  19. Great idea. We have a similar chair...still in storage. It will be going to our daughter as we had it in her room when she was growing up. Seems to me that I remember stacking daughter's clean laundry on that little chair. ha! Sheila
