I've found that my new spot for reading is in the keeping room.
It's close to the coffee pot,
just beside the laundry room,
and is in the heart of our home, the kitchen,
so it's the perfect spot to pull up the footstool and cozy up with a book.
There's been one problem.
I'm one of those that doesn't finish a book before starting another
and have several daily devotionals that I read, so there's clutter!
There is always a stack of books, my journal and pens cluttering up the table.
I needed a solution for keeping my books close by without all the mess
and
that's
when
this
small
antique
chair
came
to
mind.
Crafted with wooden pegs, tapered legs and a basket weave seat,
this farmhouse style chair
is the perfect "book shelf" for the keeping room.
A hooked rug square was placed on the seat to help protect it from the weight of the books
and the colors just happen to go perfectly with the rooster hooked rug in this room.
Rather than stacking the books on the seat of the chair,
I decided to use this primitive box to hold the books and devotionals I'm currently reading.
My Bible fits just behind the box or it can hang on the side of the chair.
There is a drawer in the box too and is where I keep my journal and pens.
This chair has been tucked away for a long time so I'm glad to have found a good use for it.
From most views in the keeping room and kitchen it can't be seen but the books are close by when I'm ready for them. Who knew a little antique chair could be the solution to clutter!

It's a perfect solution, and looks to be a perfect place to read, especially when seeing the light that's streaming in on that first photo.
ReplyDeleteIt's great for you that it fits a functional need, but it's so darn cute that would be enough for me.
ReplyDeleteI love it, Cindy...a perfect fit!
ReplyDeleteThat is a good solution. Well done. :D
ReplyDeleteMorning Cindy,
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea................and perfect solution, and so nice to get to use a really cute piece of furniture that adds
a bit of whimsy to the room as well. Look great! and love your shelves with all that beautiful white ware, and you
know how I like white ware..............lol
Hope this find you well and happy sweetie,
Blessings, Nellie and also thanks for hosting your fun linky party every week, lately I don't think I have gotten
by to say that.............so I will say it now..............lol
Hi Cindy. Oh, this is a beautiful solution for your books! :) I love your pretty home.
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I also tend to pile up books, papers, pens and forty-two pair of cheap-o reading glasses. I love your idea for gathering everything into one neat area. Cutie-pie chair!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Cindy! I love to use old chairs as a storage place. I have a sweet chair of my grandmothers that can hold a few books, but it too rickety for normal use. It is the perfect chair for displaying a few books I am currently reading. I get to enjoy the chair without fear that someone will fall and hurt themselves when it breaks!

That's just the cutest idea! I've got to find a new place to curl up for my devotionals when we move and I'll have to remember this.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun when you have one of those "light bulb" moments? The chair and box are the perfect book holders!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteI adore your solution to finding a place for your books, journal and pen, dear friend!!!
I have a vintage "footstool" that holds the magazines I'm currently reading in the Living Room!!!
I adore the drawer in the vintage box!!!
Thank you for your gentle reminder to think "outside the box" for clever solutions within our homes!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Very cute Cindy, that's perfect for your "clutter"! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteGenius!! I LOVE that box, the perfect vessel for your books, journal and pens!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's always great to find a beautiful way to control clutter! I have a spot in my home too where I keep my Bible and all the good books I'm studying, but I haven't found such a stylish way to keep them. I'm going to work on that now! lol
ReplyDeletelove and blessings~

ReplyDeleteI am so with you on this. There's always a stack of books, pens, journals, planner...you name it...I need it beside me. Love your solution!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea Cindy...such a pretty solution!!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you don't know what clutter is! Cute idea for that awesome chair!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. We have a similar chair...still in storage. It will be going to our daughter as we had it in her room when she was growing up. Seems to me that I remember stacking daughter's clean laundry on that little chair. ha! Sheila
