The Keeping Room Window ~ Hummingbirds in Flight

Through the farmhouse kitchen and keeping room windows are wonderful views of nature.

It dawned on me when sharing about all the activity taking place at the front window in Through the Kitchen Window ~ A Special Place, that I haven't shared about the activity seen through the other windows in the keeping room.

To the left of the fireplace is a glass paned door and to the right is a window, both overlooking the deck with lots happening just outside.

From the island sink there are views through all the windows so it's a great place to do prep work.

Through the front window there are views of the songbirds visiting the feeder and as I've shared, lots of other creatures too!

Through the glass paned door I can see the songbirds visiting the feeders in the courtyard just past the deck and the bluebirds visiting the feeder in the grassy lawn past the courtyard.

The window to the right of the fireplace offers some fascinating views too; hummingbirds in action and man are they fun to watch.

This is the view from the door.
You can see a female cardinal on the closest feeder.
The farthest away is the bluebird feeder and is approximately 100 yards away from the door.

Three feeders to watch songbirds visit while I do dishes and prep for meals...I love it!

Just outside the window is a planter filled with hosta, ivy and a hummingbird feeder hanging from a shepherds hook.  As soon as I stepped outside the door to take this picture, a hummingbird came to visit the feeder.

These pictures were taken from inside through the keeping room window and as you can see the hummingbird feeder is is plain sight.

Sometimes I'll take a few minutes to just sit and enjoy watching these beautiful little birds.

They are so tiny, beautiful and FAST!
Here are two short videos for you; one of a hummingbird taking a rest and the other of one in flight.

  2. Cindy, your hearth room is warm and beautiful. And your floors are stunningly gorgeous. I enjoy looking out the windows, too--the ever-changing scenery is a gift. I am way, way behind on tending to my hummers and need to find the feeders. Have a great weekend!

  3. I believe I've only seen a hummingbird up close and personal twice in my life--we don't get them here very often in Western Nebraska. Both times I thought it was a huge insect until I looked a little closer. Ha! Wonderful photos of a difficult to capture subject!

  4. What a beautiful room to sit and watch all the activity! I have cardinals that visit right outside my door. How nice of them to match my red interior, like yours!

  5. How wonderful you were able to catch the humming bird on your camera ~ You must have had it right near you.
Every time I try this they always fly away.

  7. Beautiful home, and lovely sharing of hummers - like your vids, so neat.

Yep - we established ourselves as a feeding place for them and they come back year after year.

Glad you do too, they bring us joy, don't they?

(I just wished I had their energy!!)

What is the red cup attached to the top of the feeder there for?

  9. Oh, yes, my Hubby and the Hummingbirds have quite the relationship. He keeps 2-3 feeders on our current patio and I'm sure he'll lure them out to our new house when we move. What gorgeous pics and always a joy to stop by.

  13. Cindy,
I agree, dear friend, you have a wonderful spot to do the dishes and prep the food!!!
The spot where you've place the hummingbird feeder is breathtakingly beautiful!!!
We don't hang a hummingbird feeder in our Gardens, but we do have a large honeysuckle bush
and several hibiscus bushes that they love to surround!!!
Thank you for sharing the view from another of your windows!!!
    Fondly,
    Pat
