Kitchen Remodel Update ~ Lots to Share!

I am excited to share these remodel updates with you today!

So much has happened in the past two weeks.
We are in the final stages so it's really hopping around here!

Let's see, where did I leave off?

Oh, yeah...bare to the bone!

All of the paneling had been removed,

the wall between the old den and old kitchen had come down,

and the steel beam was put in...

The footings to support the new beam were installed under the house,

the  hood vent tubing installed,

electrical finished,

and all inspections have passed...

Insulation was installed and passed inspection too...

The dry wall was delivered...

Installed...

and sanded smooth...

Remember the hardwood flooring had been in the great room for MONTHS...

It was finally moved to be installed...

The flooring was laid out and nailed into place...

We added the hardwood flooring to the old kitchen about 8 years ago.

When the old kitchen cabinetry was removed there were no hardwoods underneath them
so there are a few areas where the new hardwoods have been weaved in with the existing...

The install is complete...

After dusting everything down and vacuuming a few times...

Here's how the new and existing hardwood looks after being weaved together...

Once the new Brazilian Cherry floors are sealed there won't be such a huge color difference between the old and new.  There will still be a difference, as cherry darkens over time, but it won't be anything like it looks now.

What's next?

The guys are coming on Monday to begin the sanding and sealing.
There will be 1 coat of oil base sealer and 3 coats of oil base poly with a sanding in between each coat.

Most of the downstairs rooms have hardwoods which run into the new area.

Since it is hard to have a fresh coating of sealer mesh with old, all of the existing hardwoods will be lightly sanded and coated when they come to do the final coat.

Know what that means?

Everything downstairs,
the dining room, living room, hallways, great room, laundry room, closets...
everything that is on hardwood flooring has to be packed up and moved to somewhere with carpet!

We are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel

and are so excited that we will soon be able to shake all the dust off and settle into our new space!

Thanks so much for coming by

  2. Cindy, Wow, you HAVE been busy! How exciting and looks like things are progressing nicely. I like your cherry hardwood and I certainly know the drill with all those inspections, electrical, plumbing, dry wall, and floor finishes........ It's a LOT of work. Have a nice weekend!

  7. Exciting, but I know what a pain it is moving everything around! The end will be fabulous I'm sure! Sounds like it's all well planned out and that the end is very near!

  10. so fun to finally see your plan coming into action.
We once put carpeting (it was the 80's) in all bedrooms, hallway and front room. It was scheduled for Saturday. We stopped by the carpet place on our way home Friday night and were told it didn't come in so it would be delayed until the following weekend. When we got home, our three teenage daughters had a surprise for us -- they had removed all the furniture in those rooms to the garage and patio!

  16. Cindy- I can sense your elation that you are coming to the end of your project. It is amazing how soon you will forget all that mess you lived in for so long. You will look around and just enjoy the NEW..and forget the old. It is so worth it in the long run. After your floors are all done it won't be too long before they look more uniform and you will barely notice the integration of new to old wood. We have done that in a couple of our homes that we rehabbed.

Have a great weekend- I am trying to catch up a bit..xo Diana

  17. Oh, my, things are moving along. We are still about 2-3 weeks away from getting the drywalls up and I can hardly wait. I enjoy watching your progress. Happy weekend!

  18. You are rolling right along! I'm sure it isn't fun living with all of that going on in your house though. We once took up tile floors and had wood put in. We were cleaning dust from the most obscure places for a year. Your space is going to be amazing - it already is! It looks so spacious and those floors are amazing.
