Guest Room Reveal

Recently I shared a sneak peek of the updated guest room which shows what the room looked like before and today I'm sharing the reveal.

Most rooms in our home evolve over time and I'm sure this one will be tweaked here and there, but for now it's finished and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out.

Only a few things were purchased, most of the furnishings were already on hand.

The oil painting is of my father's early childhood home and was painted by a friend of my dads who used an old black and white photo of the farm as reference.  Its new home is nestled on this chest with an old ironstone pitcher full of cotton.

The smocked window treatments are new and add an airy feel to the room.

The paint color was chosen to work with the love seat, which is old but in good condition so no reupholstering for now.  There are too many other things on our to-do-list.

I love the new bedding.

Ruffles and matelassé add a soft touch.

An old vanity top missing its mirror is being used on the wall to frame for a few antique silhouettes.

Granny's antique White sewing machine is being used as a table between two cane back chairs upholstered in crewel.

An occupied Japan figurine, flowers from the garden, and a silver heart basket has been placed on the mirrored plateau.

Across the room is a vanity with a hobnail vase, antique hand mirror and brush, old brass candlestick, and a teapot filled with a bridesmaid's bouquet from our daughter's wedding.

It feels so good to have this guest room finished and I love the way everything worked together.

A little info on the new items in the room...

  4. I am in love with this gorgeous room. I can see that we like many of the same types of things. Are you a figurine collector. I have quite a large collection of antique and vintage figurines that belonged to my mother that I will be unpacking to sell soon. Let me know if you or anyone you know might be interested.

  12. So inviting and serene. The painting of your father's home is so special. I'm fascinated with the occupied Japan figurine. My mom has always told me about that but I have never actually seen one. I is it a family piece or a fabulous find? Must be a very expensive item. Pamela

  14. Hi Cindy,
Your guest room is lovely and serene and would be a welcome respite.........
Love your new curtains and bedding and the pretty pictures you have on each side of the bed.
Also that is so neat that you have that you have a pic of your dad's childhood home and have it
displayed so nicely. It is always such a delight to finally finish a project. I had been working
on chair cushions for my porch before our trip and need to get back to this week.
Have a great weekend, and thanks for sharing your sweet guest room.
    Blessings,
    Nellie
