A TOUCH OF FALL ~ SUNFLOWER CLOCHE VIGNETTE

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Seeing that it is Fall I thought I would add a touch of the season to the den.  Sorry for the color of these photos, something hokey is happening with my camera!

I gathered my fall cloche printed with bumble bees, sunflowers, and butterflies...

During the summer months I often find birds nests and butterflies in the garden.  Often I find butterflies being blown by the wind across my courtyard.  They look pristine, so it is hard to imagine why they didn't make it? The saddest is when the nest has eggs and the mother never returns to them.  It seems a shame to just pass them by so I place them in the cupboard on our screened porch.

Have you ever found a nest with eggs but notice that you never see the mother bird?  To find out if she is returning to the nest you can gently place a bit of thread across the nest from one side to the other and then walk away.  Come back and check the thread the next day, or two, or three and if the thread remains in the same place you left it then you know that something has happened to the mother bird and she isn't returning to the nest.

It is so interesting to see what birds use to make their nests.  There is paper, plastic, hair, moss, and the list goes on and on...

I thought these may be nice to use in the sunflower cloche.

Only one nest will fit inside the cloche so I will use this one...

This butterfly is printed on the back of the cloche...

After placing the cloche in the den I realized the sunflower printed on it was hiding the nest and butterflies on the inside...

So I moved it to the kitchen table and gathered these ceramic pilgrims and a candle vase...

and some fall leaves, a sunflowers flower with bittersweet, acorns, and pumpkins...

A touch of fall in the den.
Guess what?  This is the last Fall that I will be placing vignettes in this den because
this room will soon be my NEW kitchen, yippeee!!!

Ellie-Mae has been sitting on her pillow watching me switch this and swap that!
She says to tell you Hi!

  1. All your bird nests are neat. Love the bird nests when I find them. I like the pretty blue plate with your pumpkins. I like the pumpkin color with the blue, very pretty.
Your dog is so cute, I can see she like to have her picture taken and to help mom.

  2. Cindy,
I love the final arrangement in your den. I have a marble top table almost identical to yours except it is a lighter oak color wood, I am glad that you are getting a new kitchen but I am so sorry you are getting rid of the den.....I love it and have always loved the coziness...oh well, I know your kitchen will be gorgeous!

  3. You know how to make a beautiful cloche! I struggle with them! Your collection of nest is so sweet, your advice on using the thread is such a great idea, when I come up to the lake I find a lot of new nests here and there and I'm constantly looking for signs of life in case our sudden presence scared away the mother.

How exciting about your den becoming the kitchen. Literally or are you expanding out? You have to love a big kitchen!

    Your Ellie~Mae is beautiful!

  10. Hi Cindy,
Cute cloche, I do the same thing with nests and dead butterflies that I find. I have mine in a large doll glass case to look sort of like a Victorian parlor dome. I like your marble top parlor table, very pretty.
Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.
