KITCHEN CABINETRY ~ What YOU Said!

In asking for YOUR thoughts on

so far this is what YOU have said

and

these are YOUR top kitchen picks...

all-wood-kitchen-cabinets

~ Most preferred all white.

~ Many liked the idea of white cabinetry with a different color for the island.

~ A few thought it would be nice having the upper cabinets a different color than the lower.

Several of you indicated you would NEVER have white kitchen again

and

a couple of you said you would NEVER have stained cabinetry again.

Dings and chips in white were noted as “natural distressing” while others commented that
white cabinetry can yellow and spills such as coffee and other splatters are hard to clean.

YOUR top 4 favorite kitchens were…

#1 ~ This all white kitchen.

#2 ~ White cabinetry with the island either stained wood or painted.

#3 ~ A mix of painted cabinetry.

#4 ~ A mix of painted and stained cabinetry.

  2. I just found your blog via Southern Home, she was speaking about Haven. I stopped over and it is ironic that you are doing your kitchen, well kind of, LOL. We are in the process of getting ready to build a new ranch and I am just thinking about what kind of cabinets I would choose. I want very French Country. I can't wait to see what you choose. I am your newest follower. I would love for you to stop by Cloches and Lavender an take a look around and maybe become a new follower. Not much has been going on right now but you can read about how we got to the process of wanting to build our new home. I hope you will follow us on our journey soon there will be lots going on.

  3. Hmm, I haven't had trouble with chipping white paint but I'm careful and definitely have knobs and pulls. Some of my neighbors seem to think it is out of style to have knobs but I don't agree.

Stain yellows over time too so I wouldn't worry about that.

  4. I forgot to say the other day, when I was voting for white ,that after my white paint had cured for 30 days, I waxed them with johnsons car wax and buffed them. its been 3 years and just a lightly damp rag cleans them . Not yellow- they dont stain and we are a twice a week italian food family:)

  5. I honestly can't remember if I voted, Cindy! lol! I will say that I have white upper cabinets and painted (gray/green) lower cabinets. I like the mix. I haven't had a problem with the white cabinets except they are open shelving actually, and sometimes you can see the dust (gulp!). I really do like a mix up, you have the best of both worlds.

  6. My choice for appliances... NEW. LOL! It's probably a good thing I'm not making these decisions.

  7. I had an off-white kitchen by Ikea in my previous home (I know, not real wood, but I couldn't and still can't afford it) and they were very easy to clean. Because they were white, they did need cleaning every now and then, but I don't remember it as a pain. I would go white again.

  8. My cabinets are white, and my island is painted raspberry. I loved it day one, and I still love it. No problem with my cabinets staining.

  9. I am a past home builder for many years and I always used GE appliances, in the higher priced homes I used GE Monogram appliances. I never received one phone call from a customer complaining about their appliances. Never! I think cabinetry color is such a personal choice, as a home builder I had to put in what was in demand, in my part of the country, at the time of building each house. I think you should choose what excites you the most, all of the choices you mentioned are great ones!

  10. It was fun to read what most people liked. I love having white cabinets and have had them now for over 17 years. I think they're easy to clean too. I do think having a dark wood floor offsets the white cabinets though and keeps it from getting cold or sterile feeling. I even have white walls with my white cabinets and white appliances! It's just classic and doesn't seem too dressy like the stained cabinets do to me. If I didn't have white, I like grey.

  11. I wouuld choose #2. Black and white is so classic and soemthing I don't thinkg I would tire of easily. It will be interesting to see what you choose for your kitchen! Go with your heart and notice what types of images you are drawn too. Can't wait to see your new space!

  12. I'm still voting for #1, all white. ;-)

  13. Cindy, every photograph is so gorgeous, I want to pick them all; my vote goes to #1, however. I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation, and I'm doing something I said I would NEVER do: paint the cabinets white. My current maple-esque kitchen doesn't require daily scrubbing, but I miss the brightness of an all-white kitchen. They just makes me smile! As for painting lower/upper cabinets (or an island) a contrasting color, I like this technique, but it won't work in my kitchen. For the cabs, I went with a neutral white paint (few undertones), and I am getting a lacquered finish that will be easier to wipe down. I went with a satin finish rather than semi-gloss, though. If it's too shiny, so be it. Gotta be practical here. My old kitchen #2 had a designer-orchestrated faux finish (cream/glazing), and I struggled every day to keep everything tidy (this isn't counting two Mr. Coffee pots that exploded all over those cabs, argh, argh!). I'm excited about your new space!

  14. Cindy I can not wait to see what you decide on. We personally decided to the uppers painted and left the bottom as is. We love the look. It allowed me to brighten up our kitchen but still keep the wood that my husband likes.
