The Laundry Room
The laundry room,
so necessary,
and we all have one,
but do YOU enjoy spending time in there?

It's one of my least favorite things to do.

Hauling laundry down the stairs,
sorting,
washing,
drying,
hanging up

ironing,
putting it all away…YUCK!

I wanted to brighten up the room and thought about painting the walls and cabinets but just wasn't ready, so I added toile wallpaper to the cabinets and it really lightened up the room.
Not long after I found the same toile pattern in fabric and made the sink skirt...

The door to the screened porch also has a valance in the same pattern...
The antique washboard was purchased at auction...
Across the room is an antique drying rack.
I remember smiling when I saw the manufacturer’s name was Hopkins, the same last name as my great-grandparents...

Did you notice the name of the clothes drier? "Perfection!"
I am so glad drying clothes has been made more perfect...aren't you!
My Granny loved porcelain figurines.
They were placed here and there on her side tables and shelves and as a little girl I would curl up in granny’s chair to admire her figurines. I would daydream, whisked away as I admired the pretty ladies in fancy dress and their gentlemen callers who lovingly held their hands, singing and reading to them, and presenting them with flowers...

My love for porcelain figurines came from Granny. I have been collecting them for a long time now and these have found a home on the laundry room shelf...
Daffodils add a bit of sunshine...

ReplyDeleteOur bedroom is blue toile and been like that for a long while but I can't bear to part with it. I think you have a lovely space for laundry. Having cabinets over your washer and dryer is a great thing. Our laundry room is straight out of the 1970's with avocado green and harvest gold on the walls. Blah!

I love the toile - I do not think it ever goes out of style. Love this laundry room. Mine is under the stairs in a tiny closet with a hot water heater, full-size washer and dryer! None of us can gain more than an inch around the middle or no one will be able to reach the washer.

ReplyDeleteOur laundry rooms are almost identical! they are laid out the same way.I love your idea of using wall paper on your cabinets. My room needs a lot of attention, as a matter of fact Gary and I were just talking about it and how our poor little neglected laundry room needed a face-lift. You gave me a great idea with the wall paper on the cabinets, I had thought about wallpapering a wall in there but not the cabinets. The laundry room is going to be our spring project.
My grandma also had the figurines, I have them now too.

That vintage drying rack is so neat! Your whole laundry room is really cute. Even though laundry isn't a fun chore, at least you have a pretty space to do it in :)

ReplyDeleteI love the toile wallpaper on the cabinets, a great idea. I think I may have several yards of that same fabric, just can't decide where to use it. I'm jealous of your large laundry room, and that drying rack looks wonderful- I think I'd actually use it quite a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteWe were just talking about painting the cabinets in our laundry room, so it was fun to see your toile. And the perfection dryer is fabulous. how lucky we are to be living with machines that wash and dry our clothes.

Your laundry room belongs in a magazine, Cindy. It is so *pretty*
Our laundry room is tiny, so we have this metal thingy that hangs over the back of the door to store the ironing board and iron. Not a pretty idea (LOVE the inspirational pictures in the next post) but at least it works for us. You can't see the board or iron unless you walk into the laundry room and shut the door.
