Special treasures that make my heart happy. I’d like to share a few with you…
A sweet pup!
When I was a little girl, this pup sat on a shelf at my Granny’s house. I have loved it for as long as I can remember. My uncle John loved this pup too and Granny knew it, so when she passed away it was left to him. A few years ago I was surprised with a special note and this pup, a gift from my uncle John. Such a treasure!
The pup is a planter and when adding a plant I noticed something written on the bottom…
It was a special moment as I thought about this pup, costing less than $2 and being priceless to me!
Granny’s electric tea pot was passed to my aunt Janie. A couple of years ago I was surprised with a special gift from her, Granny’s teapot…I was thrilled!
This is my Granny and Granddaddy, I sure do miss them!
A special friend…
Most Saturday mornings, Mr. Heart and I go out for breakfast at a restaurant down the street. One Saturday, about 3 years ago, I noticed this sweet little lady being seated in a booth near us and the tears began to well up in my eyes. Her skin tone, hair and smile reminded me so much of my Granny, so I had to meet her. I’m happy to say that we’ve been great friends ever since!
I’d like you to meet my sweet Miss B…
She will be 93 this year, such a precious lady! Can you see the resemblance to my Granny?!
I love spending time with her and before Christmas I invited her over for lunch and to visit. I also had a little something special for her from me…
Well, she had something for me too. A couple of keepsakes that I will treasure forever!
This sweet chicken egg cup…
She had two of them, giving one to her son and one to me. Perfect for toothpicks, don’t you think…
and knowing my favorite color is red, she wanted me to have this…
We came up with a great use for this beautiful dish. Since we have quite a few magnolia trees in our yard, Miss B and I think this would be the perfect dish for some fresh cut magnolia blossoms…can’t wait for Spring!
No magnolias blooming now, but we do have some pansies I can share with you...

And if you will, please keep Miss B in your prayers. She’s recently had back surgery and is still in a good bit of pain. Thank you!

Just today I found the loving cup that was my hubby's Grandfathers. It was nowhere to be found since we moved. YEAH!!!! Handed down things are priceless, I agree. XO, pinky

ReplyDeleteI never had a grandmother close by and to this day I have no lovely stories to relate as you do. I only saw my grandmother twice in my life; my father's mother. We never lived close (in different states) and people didnot travel like today at that time. My mother's mother died when my mother was a little girl.
My dear one and I have/are celebrating our 60th year of marriage and we have one dear grandson and his wife who are special and another granddaughter who was not in our life (various reasons on the part of her parents) but now that she is married she decided (her husband told her 'you have grandparents and you do not see them?') and we are so joyful to have them now in our life with their little smiling daughter.

What a great story. My dad will be 90 on Sunday. He is active, healthy, and alert - the trifecta. We're having a party for him complete with balloons, cake, and ice cream. He will love it!!!

This brought tears to my eyes as we have just moved and I have been sorting....lots of keepsakes from my mom and precious MIL who are in heaven together. No one can understand what draws us to certain special items, but there are so many special memories. My granddaughter said when she came to the new house...Oh, you have great grandmas candy dish. I told her she could have that one someday. Love these special stories. Glad you have made a new friend,

ReplyDeleteYour sweet friend looks adorable, and she does look a lot like your grandmother, very pretty lady, and looks like such a sweetie, and bet she enjoys have a young woman friend as much as you enjoy her.
I used to have a sweetheart like that across the street from me, and she was like a grandmother to my children,
she never had any children of her own, so she sort of adopted us. Our street has never been the same for me since her passing over 10 years ago. She always had something nice or encouraging to say to us. such a precious lady. Great is her reward in Heaven I am sure.............

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post! I think it's wonderful that you became friends with this nice woman. She really does resemble your Granny and you! How sweet that she gave you those gifts. I love red too so my eyes got big when I saw that piece! I do have a few keepsakes from various family members. Most came to me after they passed. I wish I had more places to display everything. I think it's wonderful that your aunt and uncle shared those two items with you. It's easy to have these things disappear.

Your aunt and uncle's things are such a treasure too! Yes, we all get things from our loved ones after they're gone, but I guess that's what heirlooms are. The pansies are so lovely too! ReplyDeleteI love that you surround yourself with those sweet treasures! That is what makes a home to me. My husband and I are getting to the age where, occasionally, we discuss "sizing down". However, every time we do, I just want to cry. How on earth does one decide what keep and what to leave behind? Almost everything in my home has a story and is precious to me! I did manage to give my son (the only grandson) my dad's pottery. So far, that is as far as I have gotten - lol!! Love the story about your new friend. She does look so much like your grandmother!

ReplyDeleteI like your pup too. When my grandmother passed everyone wanted her candy dish (she always kept it full but you better not sneak it that thing w/o asking her first!). Of all the wonderful things she owned, that's the one thing everyone wanted most because it reminded them of her. :)

ReplyDeleteMy grandmother was fond of elephants so when she moved to California, I got a lot of them - ceramics, trinkets, and a lamp. I like looking at them and thinking of her.

Your post brought back such lovely memories. My eyes began to get moist as I read about the cherished porcelain pup that was your Granny's and your uncle passed on to you. How wonderful you found your Granny in Miss B!
ReplyDeleteSome 10 yrs ago when I was going to visit my grand-parents, my mom said 'take and pick up whatever you like'. I brought home a three metal vase (some 6" tall) that used to sit on my grand-pa's desk and my mom was like....'whhaaat'! There are so many things that I loved in her place and wonder where they are now. What makes me happy is that my Granny is still around at 94yrs, sharp and lovely as ever!
