I have only tried my hand at orchids once before, so I am hoping that my “not so green thumb” doesn’t get in the way of this one lasting for a while!  Got any tips?

When I look close at this beautify, I wonder how anyone can look at nature…flowers…and doubt that God exists.  Orchids, so amazingly beautiful, which reminds me…

It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. That beauty will never disappear. It is worth very much to God.
1 Peter 3:3-4

Ever doubt how special, how beautiful you are?  Here’s a reminder

  3. I think simply seeing God's creation should cause people to KNOW there is a God. The perfect beauty of an orchid, or a rose or even a tree, proof of God is everywhere. Your orchid vignette is lovely. I've never tried to grow an orchid, I leave growing things outside, I do much better with them out there.

  5. When I was in high school, it was the highlight of the school programs, to see if I would get orchid corsage. They are truly great blooms.

  6. No tips here! I've never had the nerve to buy an orchid but I do think they are lovely. I hope yours thrives!

  7. I love orchids! They are quite hardy and I've found fairly easy to get to rue bloom. I water mine with a tiny bit of Miracle Grow each week and that's about it. It's bloomed for the past five years!

  10. What a lovely post! I have tried growing Orchids before, with very little luck after the first bloom. Here in our area we actually have an Orchid "hospital" at a local garden center, where you can "winter" your plant until it is ready to bloom again. Next time I buy an Orchid I will get it there so we can use their service.
Thank you so much for visiting me! I am glad you listened to your inner voice and jumped in blogging too : )
    Hugs,
    Terri

  12. That is a is beautiful bloom! I hope you are lucky enough to have it bloom year after year. I follow the advice I received years ago, "Water and feed weekly, weakly". I have followed that advice for the past 5 years and my orchids have rewarded me with annual blooms. I also don't move them. They like the indirect light the get in my dining room so that's where they stay. Good luck! Dianne

  13. Even though I host Today's Flowers my 'green thumb' is a little 'green', one of the reasons I joined Today's Flowers in the first place was to learn from those with more knowledge, and I am sure you will find someone who is only too willing to share theirs. Your photos are gorgeous and I thank you so much for sharing them. Lovely post!

  18. Beautiful Cindy and having tried to photograph these flowers before {not easy!} you did a great job! I keep mine in humid areas of the house (bathrooms,, kitchen) Don't allow them to soak in water and spritz them with a water bottle. Once the flower drops off.. good luck. I think you have to keep them fertilized and them don't bloom very often.

  25. Gorgeous photos, Cundy!
I have found that orchids are so easy if you water them a little every other (Saturday for me)! I have them in a naturally lit area, no direct harsh sunlight.
My gf swears by her watering method, which is 3-4 ice cubes
on the top soil once a week. It works for her!

Hope you are enjoying this long weekend.

  26. You got some beautiful close ups! I've never grown these flowers but you must be doing something right! It's gorgeous!

  27. Lovely photos! Your orchid needs light but not direct sunshine, it benefits from a lower temperature at night, but doesn't like to be moved around. It likes very weak fertiliser, or even better, orchid fertiliser. It will reward you with new flower stalk every 9 months or so if you give it the right conditions. I have 6 moth orchids like yours, some are 8 years old. Good luck :-)

  31. A friend of mine has an array of lovely orchids and he says to keep them in the bathroom where the humidity helps them feel "more at home"! I have done so and mine are blooming! Once they bloom, you can put them around your home! Enjoy!

  33. An orchid is a special gift or a wonderful indulgence. I've never been able to have one bloom a second time, but they last so long that I am still happy to have one each year. I like how you arranged your mosaic.

  34. These are glorious! I bought my very first Orchid, ever last week, and I hope it survives my care~

  35. Cindy, The Orchid is beautiful! I have had two but neither one of them survived long. I don't have a green thumb and I can't even keep ivy alive! Hugs, Sherry

  36. The only orchid tip I know is don't touch the petals with your hands or bump into them, and the blooms will last longer (3 weeks I think). But while I've kept them alive for a year, I've never managed to get one to bloom again. Maybe that bathroom humidity trick one of the others mentioned is worth a try! -- Min
