Plantation Home Tours

Touring homes is one of my favorite things to do, especially historic homes.
Most every spring Mr. Heart and I head to Georgetown, SC for the Plantation Tour.

Most of the homes on the tour are historic.  Some are in the heart of town and others are a little drive out and located on old rice plantations.  There are some newer homes that have been built on an old plantation homestead and they are built and decorated to with the same charm of the historic homes.  I especially like that many are still owned and lived in by decedants of the original owners and we often get to meet the owners which is really nice.

Decorated with antiques, crystal chandeliers, exquisite woodwork, ceiling medallions, and wide plank flooring, they are all BEAUTIFUL.  I wish so much that I could share with you pictures of the furnishings, but no pictures are allowed to be taken inside the homes.

Old live oak trees, dogwoods and azaleas make for the perfect setting.  This year because of the cold winter, the azaleas and dogwoods weren't in full bloom.

I love the detail of the woodwork and the stained glass windows.
The gas lantern on the right side of the door is glowing bright.

This is the first time this home has been on the tour.  It was in very poor condition when the owners purchased it in 2005.  They have completed a major renovation and it is gorgeous!

A closer front view as we head to the front door.

Aren't the leaded glass doors beautiful!

A few exteriors as we walk to our car to head out to the plantation homes.

This last home wasn't on the tour this year but has been in the past and it's one of my favorites. The exterior is beautiful and the interior is decorated in a way that says "welcome home".  Traditionally decorated, elegant, inviting, and comfortable, I love it!

Hope you enjoyed, there are more to share soon!

  1. Thank you Cindy! For posting photos of my favorite city in the US! I was only there for 1 day but I fell in love with it and if I ever make it back to the states again, it's first on my list and next time I'll be staying for a week or more!

  7. Hi Cindy,
Those homes are beyond gorgeous!!! I love them, I have never seen the interior of an old plantation home or one of that style. Perhaps you can feature one some day. Too bad they don't let you take photos of the interior of them, I can understand their logic, but it would be a bloggers dream, wouldn't it.
Thanks for the chance to see them.
    Hugs, Cindy

  10. Oh migosh. Where do I start? You had me at plantation. I have never been east of the mississippi =( I want to someday so bad. These homes are to die for. The big covered porches, oak trees, moss... The lead glass doors, oh and that one with the hanging lantern! Or how about the iron gates and the bridges... I can't get enough! I would be delighted if you would link this to my VIP party this weekend =) http://designergarden.blogspot.com/2011/04/vip-party-10.html

  13. My hubby and I discovered Georgetown last summer while on vacation in Myrtle Beach. We went there for a shelling tour, but once there realized what a secret little jewel this place is! We stayed there all day, having lunch and dinner and just roaming around. We knew when we left we would have to go back there someday....thank you for taking me there today!
