Today I am sharing the last of the Plantation Home Tour photos
we took on our visit to Georgetown, SC.
These plantation homes are grand, beginning with the entrance.
This is the view from the front porch, gorgeous!
The next home had this sweet plaque at the entrance and beautiful flowers leading up to the house.
At Wicklow Hall, the owner graciously waits on the porch so she can greet each visitor.
She is shown in the picture below wearing blue.
At the Oaks Plantation you'll find Mazie Brown selling her handmade sweetgrass baskets.
Below is the view of the drive from the front porch.
Just off the side of the house is a large pine with an eagles nest.
I wish I was able to capture a better shot of the eagle and her babies, it was amazing seeing her take off and soar...amazing!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tour this was!! I love old homes like that they are just so wonderful and full of history. We lived in a big old house like that when I was about 4-6 years old. They said it had been used as a hospital during the civil war, loved that old house! My Mom rented it from a old friend of my grandmothers, and it was full of this amazingly carved mahogony furniture, and the front door was so thick as a lil one I could not close it. I have wonderful memories of the fun my brother and I had living there and all the surrounding woods, and railroad tracks just less that a block away.
Great Memories!! Unfortunately some years back
it burned to the ground, and all we saw last were the chimney stacks that were left, which were quite a few as they had fireplaces in almost every room and it was a 2 story house.
Sad to see it like that!! But Thank the Lord
for Memories...............
Your flower shots just made my heart go pitty pat, you captured them so beautifully. Those white flowers look sort of like gardenias but not the right leaves, I just looked again...
are the oleander?? or what are they??
The purple ones are wisteria aren't they??
I remember that as a girl too, and what a wonderful fragrance it has,

ReplyDeleteI could tour and visit old historic homes allll day long. One of my most favorite things to do. I love residential architecture and have managed to pass that on to my daughter who is 15!
We have the best times driving around and looking at historic homes in our area.
The southern homes have so much charm and I love your foliage down there.
I love the south!

Wow Cindy! Those are beautiful homes and yards! I, too could get used to that view of the water. I love the picture of the owner of the home waiting to greet people--very sweet.

Hi Cindy, I loved your photographs of these historic homes. My husband and I lived in Mt. Pleasant, SC for 15 years and we used to go to Georgetown on day trips. We never did the plantation tours, though. Thanks for taking me along on one!

ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful old homes! Wicklow's porch ceiling appeared to be painted "haint blue." Love it when they paint the ceilings of the old homes that shade of blue. It must have been amazing seeing the eagle. I've only seen eagles in person once a few years back on a birding trip to Jekyll Island. Great post! Enjoyed the tour!

ReplyDeleteI loved all the photos from your tour. How fun! I love plantations which may have to do with the fact that I grew seeing them in Puerto Rico and then moved to the South. So romantic; and this one has plenty of that. Thank you for sharing yoru wonderful photos.
