We want our guest to feel special,
so we greet them by decorating our entries with flowers, wreaths and flags;
saying "welcome" before they even enter our home.
Once inside our homes, even before any decor is seen, our guests are greeted in another way...
with fragrance.
Yes, our homes have a scent!
Did you know that by the time we can correctly identify a scent,
like vanilla,
the scent has already triggered emotional responses?
Scents are powerful;
evoking emotions, memories, they influence our perception, and effect our mood.
So our homes need to smell good.
Of course a clean house is essential in having a clean smelling home, but candles add something special.
We often hear about the elements of design; there are a number of elements needed to pull a good design together...I believe fragrance should be considered an element.
Fragrance is compelling.
Burning candles in the home is like wearing your favorite cologne;
it's the finishing touch!
No matter how pretty something is or how appetizing it looks,
a good smell makes it even better!
And if the nose doesn't like what it smells...well, you get the idea.
I love candles and usually have one (or more) burning.
Most taper candles aren't scented, but that's alright, because the soft glow adds a warm and cozy feel. Another great element added by candles.
My favorite fall fragrances are those I would smell if Granny was baking in the kitchen;
scents like pumpkin spice, banana nut bread and hot apple pie.
Here are some of the candles I pulled together for my Fall Home Tour.
In the kitchen I gathered a few things already on hand;
hurricane glass vase
taper candle
crystal taper candle holder
pumpkins and acorns.
The glow is extra special in the evening.
Two more candles are on the fireplace in the keeping room.
I placed a pumpkin spice votive to a small round votive holder,
placed it in the center of a large glass vase,
and then layered small pumpkins and acorns around the votive holder.
Oh so pretty in the evening.
In the great room I placed corn cob candles in small brass candle holders,
covered them with glass hurricane shades,
and placed one on each side of the fireplace mantel.
I just had to get these corn cob candles.
They really look like corn and the bottom of the tapers were dipped in multi-colored glitter; so unique!
Do you like burning scented candles; what's your favorite fragrance?

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite things of my favorite season, is the fragrances! Great post! And I love all of your candles, especially the corn cob ones! ~Rhonda
ReplyDeletePretty, pretty! I just love to burn candles but I'm afraid to have them all around the house. I usually have one burning in the kitchen and the house is so open that the scent travels around. Those corn cobs are adorable.
ReplyDeletePretty vignettes! I so love candles but just can't do them because of allergies. Love the smell of fall.
