It has taken a little time but our guest room has finally come together.
It all started with these pretty pictures, a gift from my cousin.
They became the inspiration for our guest room.

My favorite color is red and these prints have most every shade of red and pink imaginable which helped with choosing the paint color… a soft green!
The draperies came next and started out as panels in red dupioni silk but something wasn’t quite right, so they were moved to Mr. Heart’s office and look very nice there.
I kept looking,
but began to think I would never find any window treatments that I liked at a price I was willing to pay, and then I found these. It was love at first sight…

These needlepoint pictures were found while antiquing with a friend.
They were in black frames and filthy dirty but I just couldn’t walk away from these two girls!
With a good cleaning and some ASCP they turned out beautifully.

The floor lamp is very special to me.
A few years ago a friend of mine gave it to me as a gift...what a surprise!
Her grandmother passed this lamp down to her mother,
who then passed it down her.
Three generations in this family and then it was passed to me!
I was surprised, thankful and humbled to be given such a treasured piece and I will cherish it all of my days!

This sweet chair was my sisters. She was redecorating her home and didn't need it any longer so she gave it to my mother who then gave it to me...yippee!
Mr. Heart and I purchased the dresser and chest of drawers at auction.

I did this cross stitch many years ago, it's one of my favorite Bible verses…
The draperies were such a great price that I bought extra panels.
To compliment the matelasse coverlet and shams the extra material was used to make the bed skirt and bolster pillow…

This side table was purchased from missionary friends who were raising funds for their call to Italy. It is being moved to another room because I found a little something…
A friend and I visited some shops around town and one was having a clearance sale with everything marked 50% off.
I was just about to leave the area when I noticed some Carrara marble. I couldn’t see the piece of furniture because there was a pile of stuff stacked on top of it,
so I got busy clearing everything off and I couldn’t believe my eyes!
Well, I think I hit gold…

Preferring rooms that are collected over time, this room definitely fits the bill.
It is full of pieces that hold sentimental value,
many were purchased at auction,
and some found while antiquing…mission accomplished!
I am real happy with how it has come together.

ReplyDeleteWheWhere did you find the draperies? I have been looking for panels like that forever for my bedroom. Please share where they came from!!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had better news...
DeleteThere shop in town with the most beautiful pre-made draperies and her prices were very reasonable. Unfortunately about the time I found her she was ready to close. The supplier she had been purchasing her products from went out of business and the other suppliers were going to charge her so much more their products that the price she would have to charge her customers would be too high...so she went out of business too. :(
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYour guest room turned out to be such a lovely room. We know some folks who own a bed and breakfast and it reminds me of one of their rooms, only yours has a lil more of an updated look. Love the pics your cousin gave you, they are so pretty, and that pretty chair. Also, love your fabric on your draperies and bedskirt,
it is really beautiful. I am a floral girl too, just love florals, and that is a wonderful floral fabric, love all the colors and goes so well with your matelasse bedspread. Very cozy looking. Your bed looks very similar to the one we have in our guest bedroom, it used to be my daughters when she was in her apartment, and I just love it. same colors too.
That was such a neat dressing table you found with the marble top, was a perfect spot for it too.
Great job hon. Now you need a sign that says "Welcome to the Dwellings House Bed and Breakfast, we hope you enjoy your stay. lol I actually made one for our guest room, it hangs behind the door, so they don't see it
till they go in and close the door, and everyone gets a kick out of it.
Great job hon, and thanks for sharing it with us. I can see you appreciate your connection to people and the things they have given you too, always such a pleasant reminder of those you love, and also to the past with the lovely furniture.
Blessings, Nellie
and thanks for coming by and for what you said, that was so sweet.............
Oh Ellie Mae is so cute. My Daisy (not Duke) went to the spa yesterday. She got a short cut. Then this morning she almost needed a sweater! I love your new room. So are you taking reservations?
ReplyDeleteI'll be right over. I need a vacation! I sure could curl up in that chair and read a book or surf a little. I think there is room for me and Ellie Mae! I love the change in the night stand. The whole room is beautiful. Great idea to use the drapery fabric to pull it all together.
Thanks for sharing your lovely room. What am I working on. More like wishing on? My sewing room/area. Maybe soon!
Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Sherry

Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThis guest room looks so cozy and inviting; you did a wonderful job with it! I truly LOVE those drapery panels, and it's great that you could use the extras for your bed skirt and bolster pillow. That's one of the prettiest matelasse coverlets I've ever seen.
Your green walls are so pretty, as are your flower pictures and your various needlework pictures, too. That marble-top table is a real treasure. What a great find! I love the scalloped bottoms of the drawers and the pretty attached mirror.

Pieces that come together for a room over time seem to give us the most joy. I had to smile when you purchased the bedside table with the marble top.....so special that it fit in the room like a new baby fits into its family. For me I love the charm of the entire room that you have put together so successfully and it glows with warmth and I am sure your guests who use this room will feel that warmth.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in highschool my mother decorated our living room with floral chairs and couch and my heart has stayed in love with florals eversince.
Wonderfully successful room full of goodness and love.
With fortitude,
Sylvia Faye
Your room is lovely (love that flowered fabric!), but what really speaks to me are all of the stories that go along with the pieces in your room. I truly believe that our homes should be filled with stories about the people we have loved, places we have visited, etc. I know your entire home must be decorated that way. Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Found you on Thursday Favorite Things and I would love to invite you over to The Creative HomeAcre Hop today!
