Surely it was more than 50 homes we walked through when looking to purchase a home and I wasn’t sure we were ever going to find one that we really liked. But from the first moment I stepped in, this house hugged me…it felt like home. That was 12 years ago and though we have done a lot of sprucing up since then, our to-do list is still very long.
Our great room has needed some attention for a long time. With dark paneling up to the chair rail, dark molding and trim, textured walls needing paint, and white ceiling fans…it has been my YUCK room! Located off the kitchen, I see my YUCK room everyday, so I was thrilled when Mr. Heart said to “get her done!”
With the kiddo’s out on their own we rarely played pool, so the pool table had to go. My dad was happy to give it a new home in his barn, for game nights with the guys.
Here’s my dad. He’s sizing up the situation as they guys head in to “get her moved”…
Yes, that’s Mr. Heart leaning up against the bay window. He's helping dad size things up.
For the most part, the only use for this room has been for playing pool, so the only decorating I’ve done has been to make the curtains. Now that the pool table is gone we are trying to figure out how we want to use this room.
As I mentioned earlier, it is right off the kitchen. Since we are also planning our kitchen remodel, we are trying to figure out if/how this room will one day integrate with the kitchen.
We cleared everything out of the room except for this large glass top table. It is here as we consider if/how this may figure into our great room/kitchen plan.
Notice all that dark trim, dark paneling, white ceiling fans…yuck!
Finally, the popcorn ceiling is being removed…let the painting begin!
It took the guys a few days to do this room, such a dusty mess!
Once they finished, we began moving things back in…
Light and bright...yippee!
Yes, the great room is a work in progress. Hint, I’m tackling some issues with clutter, so I’ll be showing you more soon.
So, what projects are you working on?

Wow- Cindy- That is going to be a GREAT great room when done. (notice my clever little play on words there?;>) I can't wait to see what you end up doing...but it sure opens up your options with the pool table out of there. We sold one of our homes with the pool table in place!;>) I was so happy to leave it behind- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWOW Cindy it looks fabulous already!! I love how light and bright it is. Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteLook at how the pretty windows and shutters look already! Can't wait to see what you do. It's so much fun to work on a project like that when you have a vision.
ReplyDeleteWOW you guys are on a roll lately! I love this room so light and bright with all those pretty windows.
ReplyDeleteThat's a huge room! Whatever you do, I know it will look great, heck, it already looks great.
ReplyDeletePS: I'd sure like to remove my popcorn ceiling. That stuff is so gross.
It already looks so much brighter and pretty. Amazing what paint can do!

Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference already........I know it's gonna be beautiful cause you have great taste.
Love your glass top table.........very pretty.
Have fun..........nice you were able to have someone paint for you. I don't mind painting, cause
I am great with a roller, it is the prep work that I dislike so much............wish I could hire
someone to do that part!! lol I have been wanting to paint my great room a butter cream yellow for
awhile now, and really want to paint my brick fireplace white.............but just a lil chicken
about the fireplace still...........but everytime I see one I think oh, that looks so nice and
fresh..........we'll see!! lol
Have a nice day tomorrow,
Blessings, Nellie
What a great after, it looks so light and airy. Fabulous job.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the same boat (with the kids moving on) and ALSO have a great room to contend with. Looks like you are on your way to something GREAT :) Love the table!

The bright coat of fresh paint looks great! So much potential in this space.
ReplyDeleteWow! Painting the room already has made such a BIG difference in the room. It is huge...can't wait to see what else you do with it. I've heard that taking out popcorn ceilings is a real mess...glad you didn't have to do it yourself.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great and huge room, fabulous new paint job for it!! The ceiling situation sounds like a drag! Can't wait to see when it's all finishes...hope you share. Thank you for your sweet and kind visit. Hugs,

Wow, exciting things are happening at your house, Cindy. You have a really good start and I know it will look fabulous when finished. Shannon
ReplyDeleteCongrats on opening your space to a new beginning. My favorite project, my husband, says he doesn't need more fixing):- I have a stained glass window to finish, the most fabulous vintage rocker to refurbish and always- the garden.
ReplyDeleteCindy, that is awesome!!!! I love what you did to make the room brighter, though it was nice before too! :)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
It looks so much better already. It went from a long dark bowling alley, to a bright and airy space. I love white paint! I'd love it if you share this on my new linky party, What We Accomplished Wednesdays!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Deborah
You're making great progress! Visiting from Metamorphosis Monday.

ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely - I can just imagine how this room will look! You have some great helpers there! I appreciate you sharing with Home and Garden Thursday,
ReplyDeleteKathy
Wow I like this a lot! Painting it all white really lightened it up and actually makes it look bigger! Pool tables are very heavy! Looks like they really disected it!
